Riding Lessons

Our experienced teaching staff provide lessons for all abilities and any age from two years upwards on our well mannered ponies and horses.

Whether it’s your first time on a horse, you’re a nervous rider returning after a lengthy break, or a keen and enthusiastic intermediate/advanced rider looking to improve skills or try something new, we are confident we can address your needs.

Pakefield Riding School has been a Riding for the Disabled centre for over 50 years and are able to provide patient, inclusive support for those with additional needs.

Horse Riding Lessons - Pakefield Riding School

We provide progressive, tailored sessions using BHS teaching methods in the form of:

Private lessons

  • one-to-one 1/2hr or 1hr sessions for any ability
  • to ensure the best start to riding, or improve specific skills

Semi-private lessons

  • shared 1/2hr or 1hr sessions for 2-3 riders of similar ability

Class lessons

  • 1/2hr sessions for groups of up to 6 riders of the same ability

In addition, if you are interested in more specialised tuition, please ask about sessions for:

  • Classical
  • Dressage
  • Lunging
  • Pole Work
  • Stable Management
  • Working Equitation
  • Vaulting
  • BHS Stages
  • Riding for the Disabled

Sessions are available seven days a week. We are usually busiest at weekends, which is also when many of our group lessons take place.

Lessons are held in our indoor and outdoor arenas. The covered indoor school, with its safe and wheelchair-accessible viewing gallery, means riders and spectators can stay warm and dry no matter what the weather conditions.

Riding lessons can be booked on an individual basis, or form part of a riding holiday. If you’d like to know more about our holiday packages, please contact our partner Equestrian Escapes or call to discuss.

If you’d prefer to hack out or enjoy a beach ride, we have plenty to offer you here…

For session costs, please see our price list page. To book a lesson, call us on 01502 572257.

What you’ll need when booking

You’ll be asked to give each rider’s height and weight, age, experience, any additional needs, and an idea of what they’d like to get from their session. This ensures we are able to match you with a suitable horse and instructor. Our weight limit is currently 15 stone, and please be aware that we only have a couple of horses able to carry riders up to this weight.

Little people options

For little people who may not be sure if they’d like to ride, we offer a short 15 minute walk-around. This allows them to get used to being around the ponies and experience riding without the pressure of a lesson.
